Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
