In a bizarre partnership that defies conventional predictions, the game developer has announced an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, providing complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Mission Uncovered

According to the formal release, "An unusual encounter leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh adventure, where hints of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome transformations resonate through the darkness." The narrative introduces a "strangely garbed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with venturing into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a secret sect.

The mission focuses on "peculiar experiments and a terrifying enemy" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Metamorphoses

The trailer highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer finishes with a dramatic sequence showing a character, probably the hostage, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Rewards and Bonus Material

Players who successfully complete the quest will obtain an exclusive katana together with several items concealed throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-themed costume for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Unique implements
• Survey Corps vehicle

Newest Free Story Update

This update also brings the game's third free story addition, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive techniques: Naoe debuts a dramatic variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Enigma" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This represents not the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime properties. The series previously featured a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally contained a quest that obviously referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
